Tournaments
Tournaments at BGroom are some of the best at the moment compared to all the other backgammon rooms. Software
BGroom’s Software is fantastic, and it’s very different from all the other backgammon rooms on the Internet. It has extremely realistic graphics, great sound effects, and downloading and installing it is very easy.
The lobby is well laid out and easy to navigate, and there is an excellent variety of single games and Sit and Go tournaments to choose from. Also, you can easily check your own transaction history and game stats whilst choosing from a variety of fun Avatars/Characters to represent you at the backgammon board. You can even change these to suit the mood you are in!
You can set up a private table so that you can play with your friends and even chat to them whilst you play.
Opponents & Rating System
There are players of all abilities playing at BGroom. One of the best features is the way you can find the skilled players or recognize the beginners. There is an easy to see ranking system, which has colored dice to let you know how skilled your opponent is.
There is also the opportunity to play without revealing your username or rating, and it is called The Jungle (Similar to what PAF and Betfair offer with their Quick Play mode). All games played in The Jungle Room do not count toward ratings, and the rake is only 3.9%.
Commission/Rake
The rake for all Single Games is 3.9%.
For Match Games the following scheme is used:
- Up to 3 points the rake will be 4.9%
- Then for 4-7 points the rake will increase by extra 0.5%
- Another increase of 0.5% will be added for games with 8-12 points
- For a game with 13-17 points the rake will also increase by another 0.5%
- Finally a further increase of 0.5% will be added on games with 18-21 points
Example: For a 4-7 point game the rake will be 5.4%
Furthermore, to encourage players to play with others at their own level, BGroom has applied the following rake additions for both single and match games:
The below rake increases DO NOT APPLY to the lower ranked player wins.
- 50% increase in rake if a player has 1 ranking group difference between them.
- 100% increase in rake if a player has 2 ranking group differences between them.
- 150% increase in rake if a player has 3 ranking group differences between them.
- 200% increase in rake if a player has 4 ranking group differences between them.
If both players have ratings over 1700, then the above increase rules will not apply.
Also, if the lower ranked player wins the game/match, the above increase rules do not apply.
Playability
BGroom’s easy to use software design is realistic, with the kind of graphics and sound effects that make players feel the thrill of the game. The natural click and roll of the dice; the movement of each piece; and the exciting Doubling Cube, which doubles your bet if you are on a winning roll, all bring you right into the backgammon experience.
There are some fantastic shortcuts as well, such as:
- Clicking on the left mouse button will move you automatically with the high cube number.
- Clicking on the right mouse button will move you automatically with the low cube number.
- Double clicking will tear off your pieces automatically.
- You even get an Option to choose game time per move and per total game by 3 levels.
